Four-time NBA All-Star and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Vin “The Vindicator” Baker hails from Old Saybrook, C.T. by way of Lake Wales, Fla. The 6’11” power forward attended the University of Hartford, where he averaged 28.3 points per game -4th in the country- and finished with 2,238 points: a school record that still stands. During his final year, Baker was called "America's Best-Kept Secret” by Sports Illustrated magazine.
In 1993, Baker was the 8th draft pick and signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. During his NBA career, he also played for the Seattle SuperSonics, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 15 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
During his NBA career, Vin started The Stand Tall Foundation, which helped give kids a better future by financially assisting with various charitable and volunteer organizations. Stand Tall sponsored activities such as Vin's Youth All-Star Awards Program, created to reward youth involved in constructive activities and to demonstrate that religion and sports can be a winning combination; and the Stand Tall Achievement Awards, which identified and rewarded students who excelled in academics and demonstrated outstanding civic achievement.
Baker retired in 2006 after 13 seasons in the NBA, during which he made four All-Star teams and won a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. In spite of these accomplishments, Vin still has a sincere love and undying passion for the game by continuing to play overseas with other retired and current NBA players a few times throughout each year. Vin has shared his knowledge of the game by coaching men’s basketball at Texas Southern University and Old Saybrook High School. He also continues to make frequent television appearances, doing
speaking engagements and has been featured in magazines. He is working on his first book titled Off The Glass, an inspirational autobiography about his experiences on and off the basketball court. Heavily involved in the community, Vin has partnered with the City of Bridgeport Housing Authority and the Bridgeport Police Department to form NETworx, a summer initiative designed to help improve the quality of life for the youth in the city. Vin plays an integral role in this project, serving as the Summer Youth Outreach Coordinator. The proud father and family man is now a motivational speaker, working with others on their personal development, health, wellness, and education goals. With a strong passion for working with youth, Vince plans to mentor them using a holistic approach while teaching them the importance of possessing good character and integrity.
